Dr. Buchele, our senior physician, started the Southern Pines Women’s HealthCenter in 1981. Dr. Buchele was born in Texas while his father was attending Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. His father was a family physician and practiced in San Augustine, Texas, where the young Dr. Buchele went to school. He later attended the University of Kansas where he was a pre-med student and majored in German Literature. He then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he received the Doctor of Medicine. He remained in San Antonio and completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the BexarCountyHospital, the teaching hospital for the University of Texas Health Science Center. He sat for his specialty boards and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Buchele is also quite interested in hysteroscopy and advanced laparoscopy as well as the new discipline of “minimally invasive surgery.” He pioneered Hysteroscopic Endometrial Ablation in this area of the country (rollerball surgery) and has brought the latest therapy, Hydrothermal Ablation, to MooreCounty as an office procedure for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding. His latest venture is to bring Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy to FirstHealthMooreRegionalHospital. This allows patients to undergo hysterectomy totally via the laparoscope while preserving the cervix (mouth of the womb) and, in most cases, avoiding any large abdominal incisions or even overnight stays in the hospital. Dr. Buchele is a member of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology as well as the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. In addition to being board certified, he is also a Fellow of the AmericanCollege of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
